Humanistic study. When I see this course name in KAK, directly my mind asked what the course about. Is it about humanity or something else? Obviously, when it first meeting last Wednesday we have known if this course much discussed about individualism, multiculturalism, and religion.
From that background my expectation for this course are can be more understand to other individual and the important is to understand myself. Then I can more appreciate the differences which happen around because difference makes us rich. With more understanding about multiculturalism I hope in the future I can appreciate the differences which happen in my class and my environment so I can be fair to all students and more understanding their characteristic which is certainly influenced by their cultural background. Therefore, because we will discussed about religion I hope each of us can be more carefully when we express our opinion so, no one would be offended. And I hope this course can be fun, give much knowledge and make us more as one family.
Talking about multiculturalism, we don’t have to go far away, in SSE the students consist of various ethnic groups such as Javanese, Sundanese, Batak, Balinese, and so on. I remember when I have registration as a new student in SSE I went to mosque to praying then, I saw a group of sundanese student was talking with their own language. I was very confused, I felt like I was listening sundanese radio. I think it’s more appropriate if in public space like mosque all students use Indonesian language so no one will feel ignored and confused. When I was in junior High School my teachers who are from Batak ethics always use their language if they want to speak that they don’t want to other to know because in my school there is a gap between Muslim teacher and Batak teacher. So, I don’t want this condition happen in SSE.
The difference is beautiful because we can learn to understand other people. When first I have friends from Sumatera I shocked with their hard intonation. Firstly I think he/she was angry to me but then I remember if the stereotype about Sumatera people is have loud voice but in fact he/she just normally speak. After we know each other, sometimes I think if all prejudice of an ethnic is only stereotype because it is different, depend on their own personality for example people said if all padang people is stingy, all Javanese people is pleonastic but it just a stereotype in SSE. In fact, we are one big family and caring about each other. I hope this condition always like this. So, as student that comes from many ethnics the key I think is appreciate each other and understanding all people if we want all people understand us.
Good posting...
BalasHapusI have some points to discuss and write longer, but I need to respond some of them.
1. You said that "difference makes us rich" how come and when the difference makes you rich? Do you see that differences often provoke social conflict and war?
2. You also say "With more understanding about multiculturalism I hope in the future I can appreciate the differences" Do you think that multiculturalism will change yourself? How come? Multiculturalism is just a worldview, ideology. The change isn't from that, but from ur' self.
we will discussed about religion I hope each of us can be more carefully when we express our opinion so
In the last point I wanna respond is your statement "we will discussed about religion I hope each of us can be more carefully when we express our opinion so", why we have to be careful when talk about religion? How about other subjects?
